Arsenic Mitigation Program

SETU undertook a program concerning Arsenic soon after it was detected in some villages under Kushtia District. SETU’s Program includes the following activities:

>> Coordination;
>> Communication;
>> Seminars, Symposiums and Meetings;
>> Media Linkage;
>> Water testing;
>> Surface water source study;
>> Social mobilization; and
>> Identification of patients.

In course of SETU’s investigation on Arsenic poisoning, more areas were identified, and more patients were discovered. 5 of SETU staff have already received training from NIPSOM on Arsenic matters, and have been carrying out testing of Tube well water in the program areas. Further, consciousness rising regarding Arsenic poisoning is also in full- swing as a routine work.

SETU also started its ‘Emergency Screening Program’ at Bheramara Thana as a lead Partner Organization of Bangladesh Arsenic Mitigation Water Supply Project (BAMWSP) along with other 5 NGOs. With Kushtia Sadar and Khoksa Thanas were also included in a similar Program.
