SETU
undertook a program concerning Arsenic
soon after it was detected in some villages
under Kushtia District. SETU’s
Program includes the following activities:

Coordination;
>> Communication;
>> Seminars, Symposiums and Meetings;
>> Media Linkage;
>> Water testing;
>> Surface water source study;
>> Social mobilization; and
>> Identification of patients.
In
course of SETU’s investigation
on Arsenic poisoning, more areas were
identified, and more patients were discovered.
5 of SETU staff have already received
training from NIPSOM on Arsenic matters,
and have been carrying out testing of
Tube well water in the program areas.
Further, consciousness rising regarding
Arsenic poisoning is also in full- swing
as a routine work.
SETU
also started its ‘Emergency Screening
Program’ at Bheramara Thana as
a lead Partner Organization of Bangladesh
Arsenic Mitigation Water Supply Project
(BAMWSP) along with other 5 NGOs. With
Kushtia Sadar and Khoksa Thanas were
also included in a similar Program.
